Every so often you run into a shop that is bright, happy, colorful and unique….then you find out that the owner is just as much fun!
Princess Cinnamon is a stay at home mom of three children, one of whom is a toddler that I’m sure loves to help! She is an avid reader and loves gardening and organizing as well as tutoring high school students. In addition, she has a creative streak that must be seen to be believed.
Cinnamon has always loved to create and design. She remembers making beaded lizards and bracelets with her little sister on weekends and over the years tried her hand at sewing, quilting, knitting, baking and crochet….but is wasn’t until she accidentally broke a beaded suncatcher that she found her true passion. Going to the craft store to find supplies to fix the treasured sun catcher, she stumbled upon a world of creativity. A store clerk that she saw on many of her trips in for supplies suggested that she might try to sell some of her stockpiled creations and Cinnamon and Silver was born. She describes her shop as Romantic “because our pieces are all inspired by the Romantic period of history. Before the Victorian era, there was Romanticism!”
This shop shows it’s passion for color with beads, buttons, wire, ribbon, shells and cork; finding things around the house with amazing color and detail to “upcycle” into miniature works of wearable art. This type of work suits the Princess’s style since she is admittedly impatient and has so many different things she wants to experiment with. While Cinnamon loves to finding that perfect piece for her customers, she admits that there are parts of the business that are tough….she hates that selling must be so complicated, things like key wording posts and listings top the list. That being said, meeting new people and customizing pieces for customers with their own special treasure keeps her passion burning for her work.
When asked if she would advise others to jump in and sell their own handmade creations, she cautioned that selling is far more involved and expensive that many realize when they first start out. That being said, if you have the stamina and drive then go for it! Cinnamon suggests teaming up with other artists to get advice and promote each other.
